Although the observer, Sanzo can be quite out-spoken when he needs to be, or feels there is an injustice. His attitude can seem overwhelming, maybe even aggressive, but that's just his fighting nature.

History:
Being born from the Tree of Life at the age of 10, Sanzo awoke alone, with no Familiar, no family, and no knowledge of what he must do or where he came from. The only thing making him stand and move forward, was hunger. After the sun came up in the sky twice, Sanzo finally stood, begging the pains in his middle section to disappear.
Maybe it was luck, or maybe through fate, Sanzo stumbled over a deer carcass occupied by an eating black feline. Swatting and baring his teeth, the Panther stopped and recognized the young boy as a Vai'aja with no idea as to what he was or how to take care of himself. So with the kindness of his feline heart, he took the boy in and offered to guide him.
After many years, the panther grew fond of the boy and finally told him that his Year of Man was coming up and explained the importance of bonding with the DNA of an animal. Excited, Sanzo asked about the creatures from the stories Griffon told him and Griffon agreed to take him to the Dragon graveyard to attempt the acceptance. When the time came, Sanzo touched the old bone from the dragons and Sanzo changed into the magnificent creature of legends.
Ever since, the pair have been traveling, never faltering in trust and strength, and growing even closer.
