Appearance:
Nola has orange eyes, the color of amber. She has long, white hair, and her skin is tanned. Her face is heart shaped.
Personality: Nola was sheltered for most of her life, while she studied. She is too trusting and wants to see the best in people. However, when she feels as though the Forest is being threatened, or she is threatened herself, she is not afraid to act and use her training for protection.
Elements:
Like all Vai'aja, Nola was born with the power to control the Earth. She also has the power to control the water, which she is still learning.
Powers:
Quicksand- combining her powers of Earth and Water, Nola can make a quick spreading, lethal quicksand. She can also stop the quicksand, turning it solid and trapping her enemy.
History:
Nola was born from the Tree of Life at the age of 14. Her Pod opened and she stretched flexed each joint with care. Just the simple task of learning to move her body tired her, and she leaned against the trunk of the tree to rest. As her eyes began to close, she felt a light weight land on her shoulder. Nola's eyes flew open when she felt something nip her ear, and a voice say Hello, friend.She looked around and didn't see anyone, but then remembered that something was resting on her shoulder. She reached over and a tiny owl jumped onto her hand. I'm Deving and you need help. I'll be right back.
He flew away and a few minutes later came back on the shoulder of an Elder. Deving flew back to Nola's sholder as the woman walked up to her. "Welcome to the world, such that is is, Fionnula. I am Bianca. Your friend Deving tells me you require some assistance. My husband Padrick and I will be glad to take you into our home and teach you the ways of the Vai'aja" She helped Nola onto a horse, who Nola later learned was Bianca's familiar, and took to their home.
Bianca and Padrick lived in a largely uninhabited, unspoiled, section of the forest. Everything they needed they grew, raised, or made; they never left the forest for fear of the unnatural world. They had very few visitors, all were Vai'aja. For the next four years, Bianca taught Nola- how to read and write, how to control the element of earth, and more importantly how to care for it. Padrick taught her self-defense and weapons. She became proficient with throwing daggers and a Celtic sword. It was at this time in her life that she discovered that she could not only talk to Deving, but to other animals too.
A month before her 18th year began, Bianca and Padrick sat her down together and explained to her about the world. They told her about the Prison and how it was taking over, about the pirates and mercenaries and others who could harm her and the Forest. Padrick told her that they knew their existence on this world was coming to an end and they wanted her to be prepared to face the world alone.
Her training intensified and on the day she turned 18, she chose a barn owl to take its form. She wanted to be able to fly with Deving, but protect him at the same time. For the better part of a year she practiced her flying, and her new abilities that she had with Devin's help. One day when she returned, Bianca and Padrick, together with their familiars, asked her to help them return to the Tree of Life. They told her that their time was over and they wanted to see it one last time. On the way, they met other Vai'aja, who felt the the Elders' time was ending. For a day and night, Nola sat with Bianca and Padrick, who had become her parents, and when dawn broke, they both slipped away, within minutes of each other. Nola felt pain like she'd never felt before. With help from the other that had joined them, she made arrangements for their burial.
Nola went back to the home she'd shared with Bianca and Padrick, but found that it was too painful to be there without them. She took her daggers, the Celtic Sword that Padrick left to her, and the amethyst necklace that was from Bianca, along with a few personal items and left the only home she'd ever known.
