Sanura sat silently on the ledge of a window. The air around her was steamy and humid, and the only shade was right under the awning. She was being looked after by Abasi and Jana, her only guardians who had children of their own. They were her favorite guardians because they were so busy tending to their ever expanding clan- 4 with one on the way- that they paid her little attention. At the moment Jana was inside, rocking the smallest to sleep, while Abasi was giving lessons to the older three. Sanura knew they would be mad if they found out, but hopefully they would be occupied for the next couple of hours.
Sliding off the ledge, Sanura looked around to make sure no one was paying her any attention. Then she slipped around the side of the house into the alley. There, she slid her hand along the wall until she found a familiar hollow worn into the stone. She secured the handhold, and reached up to find the next one. Quickly she shimmied up the building until she was on the roof. Laying on her stomach, Sanura surveyed the ground below, looking for guards. It was her experience that people, especially the guards, didn't look up, unless something caught their attention. So she remained motionless until they passed.
When it was clear, Sanura grabbed the clothesline and hand over hand climbed to the next roof, which wasn't very far away. She went that way for about a half hour, climbing up and down houses, across clotheslines, and even jumping across a few narrow alleyways until she was in a completely different neighborhood. This area was darker, and more dangerous, but Sanura could lose herself better here. Stepping out of an alley, she walked down the street, keeping to the shadows.
